Stage 2: Dordrecht > Rotterdam

Tuesday, August 13, 2024

A busy day awaits the riders on day two of the Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift 2024. Before the individual time trial, there is a short but treacherous stage between Dordrecht and Rotterdam in the morning.

After Rotterdam and The Hague, the start and finish of the first stage, it is Dordrecht’s turn to enter the Tour’s orbit. The circus of the Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift will descend on the heart of the city, and the first wearers of the yellow, green, polka dot and white jerseys will proudly stand in the front row.

Short and fast stage
The morning stage is relatively short but treacherous. The pace will be fast from the start, and the GC contenders, with an eye on the individual time trial in Rotterdam in the afternoon, cannot let their guard down for a second. Here they cannot win the Tour, but they can already lose it.

Through the city centre and the polders
After the start on the Energieplein, the peloton first sets sail for the historic city center and the harbors, a beautiful part of Dordrecht. The peloton leaves the city via the Merwedebrug and enters Papendrecht for a lap through the polders of the Alblasserwaard. As the wind always has free rein here, it can lead to breaks in the peloton. If the riders look up for a moment, they will see, among other things, the world-famous windmills of Kinderdijk.

On the outskirts of Rotterdam
Via Alblasserdam, Ridderkerk and Barendrecht, the route heads to the southern outskirts of Rotterdam. After the turning point near Rhoon, the Tour will finally ride into the finish city for the final 15 kilometers of the stage.

City centre finish
The final will feature several iconic locations for television viewers. After passing by De Kuip, the football club Feyenoord’s stadium, the riders will head through Rotterdam-Zuid towards Koninginnebrug and Willemsbrug in the city centre. At over a kilometer from the line, they turn onto the Maas Boulevard and all that awaits them is a long, straight line to the finish.

Finish on the Erasmus Bridge
The finish line was drawn on the Boompjes at the foot of the Erasmus Bridge, a majestic location for a perhaps majestic sprint. Or is the city course cut out for a successful surprise attack?
