In a short time, Sophie Straat has become the undisputed queen of a new generation of protest singers and thus plays the rightful leading role in this ‘yellow jersey concert’ of the Tour de France Femmes.
She grew up in Amsterdam in the late 1990s and is known for her sharp lyrics that address social and societal ills. With her bold songs, she breaks taboos and does not shy away from going to the barricades.
Sophie Straat experienced a dream start to her career. Her debut album ”T is niet mijn Schuld” earned her an Edison in the category ‘Dutch’. Together with Goldband, she scored the summer hit ‘Tweede Kamer’ (Second Chamber), was the support act for André Hazes Jr. in the Ziggo Dome and her life songs have now amassed more than two million streams.
